Red USA Vise 10

Pics of a red USA made vise I got from an estate sale, i think the jaws are 10″ wide, it was rusted so i cleaned it up a bit

The jaws only contact on one side but mostly work, the main shaft screw was more of an issue and hard to turn

Assembled, I inserted some shims to make the jaw sliding more parallel and smoother

Had to replace the pin holding the vise nut in position, i shimmed the vise nut on the dovetail side and also used a brass rod that barely fit to replace the pin

I cut the pin to length and hammered in, way better jaw sliding

Granite Surface Plate

Got a granite surface plate from an estate sale and had to get it in the house, it weighs 418 pounds, sized 32 by 24 inch. It was much easier having the seller use the forklift but all I have is a pallet jack and ratchet straps, it came down the trailer without issue, just slowly tightening one ratchet strap at a time.

Got the Surface Plate home, now the offloading starts.

I was planning out how to tilt the trailer and keep it raised while I slide the Surface plate down to the pallet jack.

I decided to lift front of trailer and jam three 2x4's, just one was not enough, and I also jammed the tires, it felt solid enough to start removing the wooden frame i built around the plate for transport.

i put some planks of 2x6's to make a ramp and inserted 2x4's under the ramps, then I noticed one of the ramp planks moving so I got a jack underneath to help with support, the pallet jack kept rolling away so i attached a ratchet strap and tightened it. the whole thing felt solid and I removed the bottom retaining plank holding the surface plate on the trailer. As soon as I was ready to start the slide down, it began to rain, I was worried but it actually made the sliding easier and the wood more lubricated.
